Esty

Esty is a familiar form of Esther used in Jewish naming traditions. Esther is often connected with a Persian word for star, though its older derivation is debated. The biblical queen supplies the name family's central religious story, while Esty gives that longer traditional name a compact everyday form.

Esti is another spelling that represents a similar familiar name. Esty also appears as the name of the central character in Unorthodox, giving it a contemporary screen association. For a family choosing the name, an Esther namesake or the biblical connection may be more important than the modern reference. The short form preserves that relationship without needing an additional meaning of its own.
