Eunice

Eunice comes from Greek elements meaning good and victory. In the New Testament, Eunice is the mother of Timothy and is remembered alongside his grandmother Lois for their faith. That family association helped give the Greek name a lasting place in Christian naming traditions beyond its original language.

The name also has a significant musical connection: Nina Simone was born Eunice Kathleen Waymon. That fact gives Eunice a different cultural association from its biblical history, with both stories belonging to real bearers of the name. For parents drawn to older names, Eunice offers a concise meaning and several layers of history. Its familiar English sound is different from what a reader might first expect from the Eu- spelling, making a spoken introduction helpful.
