Everardo

Everardo is a Spanish form of the Germanic name Eberhard, also known in English as Everard. Its two elements refer to a wild boar and to being brave or strong. The boar belonged to the animal vocabulary of older European personal names, where a striking creature could become part of a name passed down through generations.

The Spanish ending gives Everardo its own rhythm while preserving the older compound. It belongs to the same broad pattern as names such as Bernardo, which also carries an animal element through a Germanic source. Mexican film director Everardo González offers a modern example of the exact form. Families can choose it as a complete established name rather than treating it as a lengthened version of the unrelated English word ever.
