Fiorella

Fiorella is formed from Italian fiore, meaning flower, with a feminine diminutive ending. Little flower is therefore a direct explanation of its construction rather than a poetic meaning added afterward. The related masculine form Fiorello uses the same floral word, but Fiorella has its own established life as a girl’s name.

Italian singer Fiorella Mannoia is a recognizable bearer, while actress Isabella Rossellini also carries Fiorella among her given names. The name offers a broader botanical image than a name referring to one particular species, such as Rosa or Viola. Its meaning can suit a family interested in flowers without committing to a single bloom. The full Italian form also preserves the affectionate quality built into its ending.
