Francine

Francine is a French feminine name related to Françoise and the Francis family. Its older meaning concerns a person from France or a Frank, with the familiar free interpretation developing through the history of that broader word family. The ine ending gives Francine a distinctive shape among its relatives.

Writer Francine Prose and performer Fran Drescher, whose full name is Francine, provide two recognizable cultural associations. Fran and Francie offer shorter everyday forms while the full name keeps its French character. For a family honoring a Francis or Frances, Francine can preserve the connection in a different form, combining a substantial traditional background with an easy familiar nickname.
