Fraser

Fraser is a Scottish surname used as a given name, with medieval Anglo-Norman roots. Its exact derivation is debated. One dictionary explanation connects early forms such as Fresel with a word for strawberry or strawberry plant; another tradition links the surname to a French place. The strawberry interpretation is familiar, but it is best understood as a qualified explanation rather than a certain literal translation.

The name has a substantial Scottish family and clan history, so an ancestral connection can carry more significance than the disputed root. Fraser is the surname spelling, while Frazier and Frasier are related forms that may be encountered in different families. As a first name it preserves that inherited character, with a compact two-syllable rhythm and a recognizable Scottish association.
