Freddie

Freddie is a familiar short form most closely associated with Frederick, whose Germanic elements refer to peace and rule. “Peaceful ruler” is the conventional combined meaning. Freddie can also develop from related feminine names or other family nicknames, so Frederick should not be assumed to be every bearer's official name.

The ie ending is one of the established ways of writing the nickname; Freddy is another. Freddie has historical use as a full first name for both boys and girls, rather than being only a recent informal choice. Comparing Freddie with Frederick helps separate the everyday short form from the older formal name. Its peace connection comes through that name family, not through a claim about temperament.
