Gaia

Gaia is the name of the personified Earth in Greek mythology. That Greek connection supplies the direct meaning “earth” and explains the name's association with the natural world. Gaia can also occur as the feminine form of the Roman name Gaius, a separate naming route whose deeper meaning is less certain.

The two histories should not be merged into a single definition of “earth mother who rejoices.” Gaea is another written form of the Greek mythological name. English pronunciations vary between a first syllable like guy and one like gay, while other languages have their own patterns. Gaia remains a compact choice whether a family is drawn to mythology, the planet, or a particular cultural tradition.
