Geno

Geno can be used as a short form of Eugene or Eugenio, names ultimately derived from Greek elements meaning well-born. In that setting, the meaning belongs to the longer name's history. Geno's compact form allows the family connection to remain while leaving off the opening syllable of Eugene.

Short names can develop in individual families in more than one way, and Geno has also been associated with other Italian names. The intended longer name is therefore useful context when it is chosen to honor someone. As an independent given name, Geno keeps the familiar two-syllable sound without requiring a child to use Eugene on formal documents.
