Gerson

Gerson is a form related to Gershom, the biblical name borne by a son of Moses. In the biblical explanation, Gershom is connected with the phrase “a stranger there,” reflecting Moses’ experience away from his own people. A derivation involving exile has also been proposed, so the name is not simply another word for the book title Exodus.

The shorter Gerson spelling belongs to the same broad name tradition while changing the final consonant and removing the sh sequence. Gershom makes the familiar English biblical connection more immediately visible. Gerson can preserve that religious or family association in a different written form, with the exact pronunciation depending on the language in which the name is used.
