Giada

Giada is the Italian word and given name for jade, the gemstone. It offers the same central stone association as English Jade while using a different language form. Ideas such as wisdom or good fortune may be attached to jade in particular traditions, but they are symbolism rather than the literal translation of Giada.

Cookbook author and television cook Giada De Laurentiis is a familiar bearer for many English-speaking families. The usual Italian opening is a soft j sound, and the name has two syllables rather than a separately pronounced initial g. Jade provides a meaning counterpart, not simply an alternative spelling. Giada can preserve an Italian-language connection as well as the gemstone reference.
