Gianluca

Gianluca is an Italian compound name joining Gian, a short form of Giovanni, with Luca. Giovanni belongs to the John family, traditionally meaning “God is gracious,” while Luca is connected with the Latin name for someone from Lucania. The combination brings two established names together rather than creating a single sentence-like translation.

Its written form is longer than Luca, but the joined name has a clear rhythm and is familiar within Italian naming traditions. Gian or Luca can be used affectionately, depending on which part a family prefers. English-speaking readers may need help with the opening letters. For parents considering a double name, Gianluca offers an established example that can honor two connections while still functioning as one complete first name.
