Giulia

Giulia is the Italian form of Julia, descended from the Roman family name Julius. The family's earliest meaning is uncertain, despite the frequent modern translation “youthful.” Giulia's history is securely Italian even when the deeper Roman etymology remains unresolved. Its spelling reflects Italian conventions, with the opening letters producing the familiar sound heard at the start of Julia.

For an English-speaking household, the main consideration is whether people will initially know how to read that opening. Once introduced, Giulia offers a recognizable name in a distinctly Italian written form. Giuli or Gigi can serve as affectionate shortenings, though neither is necessary. It pairs naturally on a shortlist with Italian forms such as Lucia, Emilia, and Alessia.
