Glen

Glen is a Scottish landscape name, taken from the word for a valley and ultimately related to Gaelic gleann. It is familiar in place names across Scotland, so its nature connection is a real part of the language rather than a modern symbolic interpretation. The single syllable gives the name a particularly compact form.

Glen and Glenn have both been used as given names, with the extra n usually changing spelling rather than meaning. A family may prefer the form already present in its records or the single-n version that matches the ordinary landscape word. The name can evoke Scottish scenery while remaining easy to write in English. It is complete as it stands and does not imply a longer formal name.
