Gloria

Gloria comes directly from the Latin word for glory. The word has a prominent place in Christian worship, but the given name also has a broad literary and cultural life. George Bernard Shaw used Gloria for a character in You Never Can Tell, and actress Gloria Swanson is a familiar historical bearer.

Gloria Estefan and Gloria Steinem offer other recognizable associations from different fields. The name commonly has three syllables in English and can be used in full without a required nickname. Its meaning is a direct word connection rather than an uncertain ancient compound, allowing a family to emphasize faith, an honor name, or simply the sound.
