Harlee

Harlee is a modern spelling of Harley, an English surname derived from place names. These are connected with Old English elements for a hare or a heap of stones and a woodland clearing. “Hare clearing” and “rocky clearing” are therefore better-supported interpretations than the sometimes repeated meaning “long field.”

The double-e ending keeps the familiar Harley sound but gives the name a more contemporary written style. Harley-Davidson may be an immediate association for some people, although the surname and its landscape meaning are older than the motorcycle company. Harlee has been used for boys and girls. Families can compare Harley and Harleigh before choosing the spelling they find easiest to recognize and use.
