Hellen

Hellen is used as a spelling variation of Helen, the Greek name closely associated with Helen of Troy. Helen is traditionally connected with light or a torch, though its earliest etymology is not certain. Doubling the l changes the spelling without establishing a separate meaning for the feminine name.

There is also a male figure called Hellen in Greek mythology, remembered as an ancestor of the Hellenes. That figure should not be confused with Helen of Troy merely because Hellen can now be a spelling of her name. For families choosing the feminine form, Helen offers the clearest comparison, while Hellen preserves the familiar sound in a different written shape.
