Henrietta

Henrietta is a feminine form of Henry, whose Germanic elements mean home and ruler. It reached English royal life through Henrietta Maria, the French princess who married Charles I in 1625. Her name helped establish a form that retains its connection with Henry while developing a distinctive history of its own.

The name also belongs to Henrietta Lacks, whose cells became the HeLa cell line used extensively in medical research. Her story, told in The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, adds a significant modern association involving science, family, and consent. Etta, Hetty, and Hattie offer established shorter forms, giving this long name several familiar ways to be used in everyday life.
