Hera

Hera is the name of the queen of the gods in Greek mythology. She is associated particularly with marriage and childbirth and is both the sister and wife of Zeus in the myths. These roles explain the name's cultural meaning, but they do not establish a literal translation such as protectress.

The word's earliest origin remains uncertain and may predate Greek itself. Several Greek explanations have been proposed, without one becoming a settled derivation. Juno is Hera's Roman counterpart, though the two names are not linguistic variants. Parents drawn to Hera can choose it for its mythological history while keeping that distinction between a goddess's role and a name's etymology.
