Ilana

Ilana is the feminine form of Ilan, a Hebrew name meaning “tree.” Its meaning refers to a tree in general, leaving room for a family’s own favorite landscape or species without changing the translation. Ilanit is another feminine name from the same root, showing how a single Hebrew nature word can produce more than one established personal name.

The tree connection also gives Ilana an association with Tu BiShvat, the Jewish New Year of the Trees. Some families choose botanical names in connection with that occasion, while others value the name simply for its Hebrew heritage. Ilana carries its nature meaning quietly: an English-speaking listener may hear a traditional given name before learning the word behind it. That combination can appeal to parents seeking both a cultural connection and a botanical story.
