Ilyas

Ilyas is an Arabic form corresponding to Elijah, whose Hebrew name is traditionally understood as “My God is Yahweh.” Ilyas is also the name of a prophet in the Quran. That shared history gives the name a connection across Islamic and biblical traditions while preserving a form especially familiar in Arabic-speaking communities.

Ilyes is a related spelling encountered in French-speaking settings, while Elias and Elijah reflect other language traditions. The compact written form of Ilyas can have a different syllable pattern depending on pronunciation, so families may want to say it aloud when choosing. It works naturally without a nickname and can be an appealing way to honor both a religious figure and a particular family language.
