Inara

Inara can be connected with the Arabic word for illumination, giving it a clear association with light and enlightenment. The same spelling also occurs in other traditions, including the name of a goddess in ancient Anatolian mythology. Those histories should be kept separate: the mythological name does not automatically translate as the Arabic word.

The flowing vowel pattern gives Inara a gentle sound while the central r keeps it distinct. Inara Serra, a character in Firefly, supplies a modern fictional association for some families. Ina is a simple possible shortening. Parents drawn to the light meaning can choose the Arabic connection intentionally, rather than combining unrelated translations into a single account of the name.
