Itzel

Itzel is used in Spanish-speaking communities and is commonly associated with Maya naming traditions and the figure Ixchel. The popular translation “rainbow lady” is not a securely established meaning for every use of Itzel. The cultural association should be distinguished from a definite word-for-word etymology.

Alitzel is a related modern form families may encounter, but adding letters does not by itself clarify the older origin. Itzel has a distinctive final consonant combination compared with many Spanish-language girls’ names ending in a vowel. Families choosing it for heritage may value that connection while acknowledging that the precise linguistic explanation remains uncertain.
