Iyla

Iyla is a modern English spelling associated with Isla, a name taken from the Scottish island Islay. The island’s older name does not have one securely established meaning. Claims that Iyla universally means moonlight in Hindi should therefore not replace the documented Isla connection without evidence for a particular family’s intended name.

The y makes Iyla look different from Isla while usually preserving its familiar two-syllable sound. Ilya reverses the middle letters and belongs to a separate Elijah name family in Slavic languages. Comparing those spellings is useful, especially in a multilingual household. Iyla can be chosen for its sound while keeping its particular naming route clear.
