Izabela

Izabela is a form of Isabella used in several European languages, including Polish, Czech, and Slovak. Isabella belongs to the Elizabeth family, ultimately from Hebrew Elisheva, commonly interpreted as “God is my oath.” The change from Elizabeth to Isabella developed through language history; Izabela is not a separate modern name created only for its appearance.

The single l and the z distinguish this spelling from the English-familiar Isabella. Iza is a practical familiar form that keeps the beginning of Izabela intact. For a family with connections to more than one language, the name can preserve a recognizable shared tradition while retaining a particular local spelling. Its relationship with Elizabeth also gives it a less obvious route for honoring a relative whose name may look quite different on the page.
