Jacinta

Jacinta is a Spanish and Portuguese feminine form in the Hyacinthus name family. Its familiar meaning is hyacinth, linking it with the Greek plant name behind the longer classical form. Jacinto is the corresponding masculine form, while Italian Giacinta and English Jacinda show how the same family changes across languages.

Jacinta's pronunciation also depends on the language being spoken. Spanish uses a different initial sound from the usual English reading of the letter j, and Portuguese has its own sound pattern. That makes the family's chosen pronunciation a useful part of introducing the name, especially when relatives use more than one language.
