Jaime

Jaime is the Spanish form of James, part of the Jacob name family. In Spanish it commonly has a two-syllable sound beginning with a consonant unlike the English j. In English-speaking use, Jaime can also be a spelling of Jamie, which explains why the same written form may be pronounced quite differently.

James and Jamie are useful comparisons for those two traditions. The familiar interpretation supplanter belongs to the older Jacob name history rather than being a separate Spanish word. French j'aime, meaning I love, is only a visual resemblance and not the origin of Jaime. A family's intended language is therefore essential to understanding both the sound and the story.
