Jalani

Jalani has established use as a masculine name in Malaysia and is also used for girls in the United States. Malaysian badminton player Jalani Sidek is a notable bearer. Some uses may connect with Jilani, a name referring to the Iranian region of Gilan, while other families choose Jalani as a modern name for its sound.

These possibilities should not be blended into a translation such as “supplanter of the heavens.” Similarity to Leilani does not by itself establish Hawaiian ancestry, even though Lani is a possible family nickname. The full name has an open three-syllable rhythm. Knowing the intended family or cultural connection is the best way to decide which story belongs with this spelling.
