Jimena

Jimena is a Spanish name with a history reaching back to medieval use. Jimena Díaz, the wife of the man known as El Cid, is a notable historical bearer. Its ultimate origin remains uncertain: proposed links with Simon or with a Basque word for “son” should not be turned into one settled translation.

Ximena is a closely related spelling, and the choice between the opening letters may reflect family or regional preference. For English speakers, the initial “J” does not usually carry the sound heard in names such as Jane. Sharing the pronunciation can therefore be helpful, especially when using Jimena across Spanish- and English-speaking settings.
