Jiovanni

Jiovanni is a modern spelling variation of Giovanni, the Italian form of John. Through that name family it traces back to the Hebrew Yohanan, traditionally understood as “God is gracious.” The meaning is inherited through Giovanni rather than created by the particular combination of letters in Jiovanni.

Replacing Giovanni’s initial G with J makes the opening consonant look more familiar to many English readers. It also distinguishes the modern spelling from the conventional Italian form, so Jiovanni should not be described as the standard spelling throughout Italian history. A family can use it to preserve a Giovanni or John connection while choosing a visibly different form for the new bearer.
