Jon

Jon can be a form of John or a short form of Jonathan, and those are separate Hebrew name families. John is associated with “God is gracious,” while Jonathan means “Yahweh has given.” The short spelling alone does not tell you which history a particular family intends.

Jon is already a complete one-syllable name and does not have to be expanded on official documents. The fictional Jon Snow gives it a recognizable modern literary and television association, but the spelling predates that character. Parents honoring a John or Jonathan can make the connection clear in the family story, especially if they prefer Jon's appearance while keeping a specific longer-name meaning in mind.
