Jovie

Jovie is a modern name with an appealing connection to the English word jovial, meaning cheerful. That resemblance is an association rather than proof of one ancient personal-name origin. Its use for Zooey Deschanel’s character in Elf gives it a recognizable film reference and, for some families, a seasonal connection.

The ending places Jovie beside nickname-style names such as Josie and Jody, but those names have different histories. Jo is a possible short form, though Jovie is already compact. A family may choose it for the film, its cheerful sound, or an honor-name connection without needing to attach an unsupported classical derivation to the whole name.
