June

June is an English month name, traditionally connected with the Roman goddess Juno. Its most direct meaning as a given name is the calendar month. “Young” is sometimes offered as a deeper explanation, but the older etymology is not certain enough to replace that straightforward meaning.

June may commemorate a birth month, an anniversary, or another family date. For US parents it also carries early-summer associations, although the season is different in the Southern Hemisphere. Actress June Allyson and the fictional June Cleaver give it familiar cultural connections. The name has one syllable and needs no shortening. Juni is a related Scandinavian month-name form, with a different ending rather than merely a new spelling of the English sound.
