Justus

Justus comes from the Latin word for someone who is just or fair. It was used in the Roman world and also appears in the New Testament, giving the name a history that crosses classical and Christian settings. Its meaning is unusually direct: the name expresses fairness as a quality rather than referring to a place, occupation, or physical feature.

The name also belongs to Christian history through saints, including Justus of Canterbury. Justin is a close relative from the same Latin family, although it is a separate name rather than merely an alternative spelling. Justus keeps the older Latin ending, so its sound and written form preserve an especially clear link with the language behind its meaning.
