Kalvin

Kalvin is a spelling of Calvin, a first name derived from a French surname associated with Latin calvus, meaning “bald.” The meaning describes the surname’s historical origin rather than a characteristic expected of a child. Theologian John Calvin helped make the surname widely recognizable before its later use as a first name.

The initial K keeps the familiar sound while changing the written form. The comic-strip character Calvin in Calvin and Hobbes supplies another association with the wider name family, although Kalvin is a separate spelling choice. Kal can serve as an informal shortening. The name’s history is therefore a surname-to-first-name development, not a new Latin name created by replacing one letter.
