Karis

Karis is used as a spelling related to Greek Charis, meaning grace or kindness, and it can also represent Welsh Carys, a name connected with love. These are separate linguistic roots that happen to produce similar sounds. A family’s intended connection determines which meaning best explains its choice.

The initial k makes the hard opening consonant especially clear to English readers who might hesitate over Charis. Compared with Carys, Karis also changes the central vowel letter while preserving a recognizable two-syllable form. For parents drawn to the meaning, it helps to decide whether the Greek grace tradition or the Welsh love tradition is the more important link, rather than combining the two into a single invented origin.
