Katelyn

Katelyn is an English-language spelling of Caitlin, an Irish form in the Catherine name family. Catherine has long been associated with the Greek word for “pure,” although its earliest etymology is uncertain. The familiar meaning belongs to that wider history, rather than resulting from adding separate translations for Kate and Lyn.

The spelling makes the common English “Kate-lin” pronunciation especially visible. Kate and Katie are straightforward short forms, offering a concise everyday option alongside the full name. Caitlin, Kaitlin, and Kaitlyn provide related spellings, but Irish pronunciation of Caitlín differs from the usual American reading. Families can choose Katelyn for its familiar sound while understanding both the Irish connection and the older uncertainty behind its traditional meaning.
