Kayleigh

Kayleigh belongs to a group of modern names written in forms such as Kaylee and Kayley. It can be understood as combining the familiar names Kay and Leigh, but that does not establish one ancient compound meaning. The translation “laurel” or “crown” is not a secure explanation of this spelling.

Kay and Leigh each provide a possible everyday shortening. The full name has two syllables despite its longer written ending, so it may sound briefer than it looks. Families choosing Kayleigh to honor a Kay or a Leigh can make that personal combination explicit without claiming that every bearer’s name arose from the same family-name blend.
