Keila

Keila can be connected with Keilah, the name of a town in Judah mentioned in the Hebrew Bible. The place name is traditionally explained as a fortress or citadel, although its exact derivation is not entirely certain. In this route, Keila belongs with personal names drawn from biblical places rather than with a named biblical heroine.

The same spelling can also be used as a variation of other modern names, including Kayla, so the place-name explanation is not necessarily every family’s intention. The Hebrew question behind Michaela and the crown meaning of other similar names should not be added automatically. Keilah makes the geographical connection most visible, while the shorter Keila leaves room for different family histories.
