Keira

Keira is an English spelling associated with Irish Ciara, a feminine name traditionally interpreted as little dark one. It belongs to the same broad name family as Ciarán or Kieran. The reference to darkness comes from the older name element, rather than describing the personality of a child who receives it.

Actress Keira Knightley is a familiar bearer of this particular spelling. Kiera reverses the middle vowels, while Ciara preserves the Irish form. Those alternatives may invite different readings from English speakers, so the spelling and intended sound are worth considering together. Keira is already a compact full name and does not require a nickname.
