Keisha

Keisha developed as a modern name in American use, especially within African American naming traditions. Its precise origin is uncertain. One proposal connects it with the biblical name Keziah, meaning cassia, while another possibility is that it was created independently. The familiar cassia-tree explanation should therefore be presented as a possible connection rather than a proven translation.

Keshia, Kisha, and Kesha are related spellings. Actress Keshia Knight Pulliam is one recognizable bearer of the Keshia form, but the name's story is broader than a single celebrity association. Families may choose Keisha to honor someone personally, with that family history providing meaning even where the earliest linguistic derivation remains unsettled.
