Keren

Keren is a Hebrew word name with meanings that include a horn and a ray or beam of light. The different senses belong to the same Hebrew word, giving the name a linguistic range that is more interesting than a single simplified translation. In modern naming, the light-related sense can be a particularly meaningful association for families.

The name also appears as the first part of Keren-happuch, the name of one of Job's daughters, although that longer biblical compound has its own meaning. Singer Keren Ann gives the shorter form a recognizable musical connection. Keren is a Hebrew name in its own right, with a history distinct from the similar-looking English Karen.
