Kollins

Kollins is a modern first-name spelling associated with Collins. The surname Collins has more than one history: an English route connects with Colin, a familiar form of Nicholas, while an Irish route can represent a different family name associated with an older personal name. Those histories should not be compressed into one universal translation.

Nicholas has a Greek meaning involving victory and people, but that is several steps behind the English surname rather than a direct translation of Kollins. The initial K changes the written form while preserving the familiar sound. A family using Kollins to honor an actual Collins should look to that family’s history, rather than assuming every surname bearer shares one origin.
