Konrad

Konrad is a German, Polish, and Scandinavian form of Conrad, from Germanic elements meaning “brave” and “counsel.” The name belongs to a long European tradition of names that combine qualities associated with leadership and judgment. Its meaning is often summarized as “brave counsel” or “bold adviser.”

Historical rulers helped establish the name, and German chancellor Konrad Adenauer is a later familiar bearer. The initial k is the normal spelling in several of the languages that use it, rather than simply a modern alteration of Conrad. A family choosing Konrad can preserve that cultural form while keeping a name that English speakers can readily connect with its c-spelled relative. Pronunciation naturally shifts between those language settings.
