Kylie

Kylie has two distinct naming connections. In Australian English, kylie is a word for a boomerang borrowed from Noongar, a language of southwestern Australia; the personal name may come from that word. Kylie has also been used as a feminine form of the Scottish name Kyle, which has a separate place-name history.

Singer Kylie Minogue is a particularly recognizable bearer. Kylee and Kiley are alternative spellings that English speakers may pronounce the same way. A family choosing the name can be clear about which tradition or personal association matters to them. “Boomerang” should not be presented as the meaning of every Kylie regardless of the route by which the name was chosen.
