Lennyn

Lennyn is a modern spelling associated with Lennon, an Irish surname often connected with an older personal name and the word leannán, “sweetheart” or “lover.” The surname relationship is important: the modern first name is not simply the ordinary Irish word written with different letters.

John Lennon gives the wider name family a strong musical association, although a family can choose Lennyn without intending a Beatles tribute. The y changes the written form while usually preserving the familiar sound. Lenin has a different historical origin and should not be treated as another spelling of the same Irish surname. Nor does a spelling change itself determine whether Lennyn is a boy’s or girl’s name.
