Leora

Leora is a form of the Hebrew name Liora, commonly understood as “my light.” The light connection gives it a clear meaning and a place in a wider family that includes Lior. Leora has also been used as a short form of Eleanor, so a particular family's longer name may provide another explanation for its choice.

The spelling has a long history in American birth records, including nineteenth-century use. Liora places the Hebrew connection more visibly at the center, while Leora keeps an established English-language form. Leorah adds a final h. For a family drawn to names about light, Leora offers that direct association alongside a name that has already been carried across several generations.
