Liliana

Liliana is a longer form in the Lily and Lilian name family, used in Italian and Spanish as well as other languages. Its familiar floral interpretation is “lily,” connected with the Latin lilium. Some accounts also connect the older Lilian family with diminutives of Elizabeth, so the flower association is the clearest everyday meaning rather than the only proposed thread in its history.

Liliana gives families a flowing formal name with the short option Lili. The spelling Lilliana adds another l, while Lilyana makes the Lily beginning especially visible. Film director Liliana Cavani is one notable bearer. When comparing names, Liliana and Lily share a botanical connection, but their length and rhythm differ considerably; saying each with a surname can make that difference easier to hear.
