Liliane

Liliane is a French form in the Lillian name family. That family has overlapping explanations: Lillian probably developed as a familiar form of Elizabeth, while its resemblance to Lily also gives it a clear floral association. Describing Liliane only as a direct ancient word for lily leaves out that more complicated personal-name history.

The French spelling ends in e and differs from the masculine French name Lilian. Related feminine spellings include Lilianne and English Lillian. For a family drawn to the flower, the lily connection remains meaningful, while someone honoring an Elizabeth may recognize a less obvious link through the older nickname tradition.
