Lillie

Lillie is an established spelling in the Lily name family, with a direct connection to the flower. It can also serve as a short form of Lillian. Some histories connect parts of the wider family with Elizabeth, but “pledged to God” should not automatically replace the flower meaning for every person named Lillie.

The ie ending gives this spelling a recognizable place among older English nickname forms. Lillie was already well established in nineteenth-century American records, so it has a historical identity beyond being a recent alternative to Lily. Lilly is another close comparison. The forms can sound alike while remaining distinct official names, which matters when looking at spelling-specific popularity figures or honoring a particular relative.
